CLOUD NEWS
-
CFOs: This is How you Can Prevent Cloud Migration Disappointment - With a poorly planned lift-and-shift migration, you may well just be transferring your existing inefficiencies somewhere else. This is another nod to needing more transformative migrations. Get your assessments done early, before you sprain your back with a painful lift-and-shift.
-
AWS Fargate Price Reduction - At re:Invent 2018, AWS announced the open source visualization technology Firecracker, which enables users to deploy workloads in lightweight virtual machines called microVMs. These microVMs can initiate code faster, with less overhead, and the cost savings are being passed down to customers.
-
Instead of a real check on the growing power of Amazon Web Services, Oracle’s Larry Ellison offers nothing but words - Ellison is basically celebrating the fact that many of Oracle’s current customers are still with the company because database migrations aren’t easy. Those customers have never met us, apparently.
-
Announcing TriggerMesh Knative Lambda Runtime (KLR) - This project aims to provide complete portability of Amazon Lambda functions to Knative native enabled clusters, and Knative enabled serverless cloud infrastructure without the need to rewrite these serverless functions.
-
What AWS can learn from Google’s roaring Kubernetes success - A decline in commits to the core Kubernetes engine might suggest fading interest in contributing to the open source container, but actually represents more activity in developing outside the core repository. Perhaps there’s a parallel to be drawn between the successful decentralized open source projects like kubernetes and decentralized IT governance models that empower the application teams?
-
Shift of Power - Aaren DeJong argues that “organizations should be starting, or well on the way, to a full benefits analysis of cloud opportunities, even where at the surface, no opportunity may appear.” Needless to say… we tend to agree.
